Here is my second post recounting my time in the NextGen Neuroscience Program from June-July 2021. In this post I will be describing my scientific development.
In the summer program, there were lectures every other day. These lectures were devoted to a variety of different topics. The lectures that stand out to me most, when thinking about my scientific development, were those that introduces me to the basics of neuroscience and statistical analysis. These lectures made dense scientific papers easier to read and understand.
In addition, some lectures were devoted to introducing the different labs in the department. This was really interesting to me because I could see the kinds of being research done at this very moment. There was a wide variety of topics being researched by the different labs, and I was thoroughly interested to learn about all of them.
Lastly, I was able to learn a lot about neurosurgery through the projects I completed under Dr. Pilitsis in her lab. Some topics I learned about include spinal cord stimulation, deep brain stimulation, and chronic pain. I have continued to learn so much since then.
